The role you’ll contribute:
The Outpatient Coding Manager, under general supervision of the Division Director of Coding, is responsible for the daily operation of the outpatient coding team and has direct oversight of the outpatient coders, APC Coordinators, and outpatient auditors. The Outpatient Coding Manager works in collaboration with the Director of Coding to ensure the integrity of coded data, the education and training of the outpatient coding staff, as well as being a resource to the entire organization on issues related to coded data. Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all. The Outpatient Coding Manager is responsible for the outpatient coding operations for the multi-state division facilities.

•Manages, develops, and coaches the outpatient coders, motivating and supporting others in overcoming barriers to understanding.
•Manages facility and individual scorecard data. Conducting monthly one on one meetings with the outpatient coders and auditors to review and discuss results.
•Weekly to bi-weekly touchpoints with the outpatient team.
•Works outpatient denials.
•Drives operational efficiency and sustains excellence in coding workflow with accountability for meeting and exceeding established goals at multiple facilities in the division.
•Responsible for the discharged not final coded for multiple facilities in the multi-state division. •Schedules employees in a manner that ensures all facilities are meeting metrics and scorecard goals.
•Maintains appropriate scheduling to ensure appropriate workflow and limitation of the use of overtime and utilizing contract help when appropriate.
•Monitors individual and overall productivity and accuracy, working to remove barriers and coaching team members on efficiency.
•Provides positive morale maintenance on a routine basis. Fosters positive relationships with fellow workers. Contributes to and promotes departmental performance improvement initiatives and employee engagement.
•Manages the education of the outpatient coding team. Scheduling education, internal huddles, etc.
•Conducts job interviews, testing and selection of new employees.
•Responsible for coding communication workflows and chart reviews
•Runs reports and manages team use of HCPRO Propel education dashboard.
•Ensures employees are completing all Adventist Learning Network (ALN) mandatory education. •Responsible for outpatient coding AHCA corrections.
•Reviews large balance account coding requests from the billing office and assigns accordingly. •Responsible for evaluations and disciplinary process of coding team members.
•Collaborate and serves as a resource to other departments in the Revenue Cycle to ensure business continuity and optimal revenue cycle management.
•Handles requests for coding review by other departments/individuals (Core Measures, Quality, patients, Customer Service, Patient Financial Services, Case Management, Patient Access, Marketing, Risk Management, and clinical areas).
•Uses critical thinking and sound judgement in decision making; keeping reimbursement considerations in balance with regulatory compliance.
•Assumes personal responsibility for professional growth, development and continuing education to maintain a high level of proficiency.
•Maintains the confidentiality of employees, patients, administrative staff and medical staff information with no infractions.
•Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
The expertise and experiences you’ll need to succeed:
KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE STRONGLY PREFERRED:

•Exhaustive knowledge of outpatient coding and working knowledge of ICD-10-CM, CPT, CPT Assistant, modifier usage, coding guidelines, and all regulatory compliance requirements.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
•Bachelor's degree in HIM or related field or associate degree in related field with five plus years of supervisory experience.
•Five to seven years of outpatient coding experience in an acute care hospital with cases involving a more complex level of coding.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE PREFERRED
•Seven to ten years of management/supervisory experience in an acute care hospital.
•Bachelor's degree in HIM or healthcare related field. LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION OR
REGISTRATION REQUIRED:
• Certified Coding Specialist
• Certified Professional Coder
• Registered Health Information Administrator
• Registered Health Information Technician
LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION OR REGISTRATION REQUIRED:
•CCS or RHIT or RHIA or CPC certification
