Shenandoah University’s Office of Dean of Students is accepting applications for a Director of Student Conduct & Community Standards. This is a full-time benefited position located on our main campus in Winchester, Virginia.
The Director is a student affairs practitioner dedicated to helping undergraduate and graduate students meet behavioral expectations and standards of the community. The position includes coordination of the university conduct process and CARE Team. The position includes investigating potential violations of the Student Code of Conduct, adjudicating violations, providing training and guidance to administrative hearing officers and panels, imposing
appropriate sanctions and ensuring completion of sanctions and interventions.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Investigate potential Student Code of Conduct violations. This includes case management for student conduct reports in maxient, holding inquiry meetings to gather information about incidents with the involved parties to determine if there is enough information to proceed with conduct charges or alternative resolutions.
Assign conduct cases to administrative hearing officers and Community Conduct Council.
Co-Chair Community Conduct Council hearing proceedings with the Student Conduct and Community Standards Coordinator
Serve as a hearing officer to determine responsibility and sanctions for student conduct violations.
Serve as a hearing officer for high level hearing violations where suspension and expulsion are potential outcomes.
Maintain accurate records for conduct cases and interactions with students.
Ensure student completion of imposed conduct sanctions. Monitor completion of conduct sanctions issued through the conduct process. Follow-up with students and other university offices responsible for working with students as needed.
Educate the campus community and parents on expectations related to student conduct policies.
Review, analyze and prepare data for weekly, monthly and semester reporting.
Participate in on-going evaluation of policies, procedures and practices of the university conduct processes. Provide recommendations and feedback as appropriate.
Facilitate restorative practices and educational programming related to community standards.
Coordinate operations for the Care Team including training of membership, maintaining operations manual, supervise case management, and serve in leadership for campus crisis situations.
Serve as lead administrator for maxient software, maintain data security and train campus partners.
Serve as liaison for the Department of Campus Safety with Clery data reporting for student conduct.

Note:
As a senior leader in the Division of Student Affairs, this position has responsibilities outside of a 9-5 workday, with occasional evening and weekend hours. The Director also rotates in an on-call position to monitor maxient reports after hours. This involves working with residence life, counseling, Title IX, campus safety and the wellness center to assist in connecting students to emergency services and community resources.
Required Skills
Qualifications:
● Master’s degree in higher education or related field strongly preferred
● Experience in higher education student conduct practices and laws
● Ability to work with a diverse student population
● Strong organizational skills and record keeping
● Ability to multi-task and meet reporting and case management deadlines
● Superior leadership skills with the ability to critically think and problem solve
● Competency in technology and student conduct software
● Creative, high energy, and passionate about working with students
● Prior crisis management and threat assessment experience required
● Excellent written and oral communication skills required
● Experience in issues related to Title IX, bias and gender equity preferred
● Certification in threat assessment, Incident Command Systems, and Behavior Intervention Team leadership strongly preferred
