Regular, Full-time, Exempt Position
The University of Maine System is accepting applications for a Director of Finance. This position serves as the senior official responsible for the direction, coordination, and integration of the overall budget planning and fiscal management of the various components of the University of Maine at Augusta. Directs, oversees, coordinates, and ensures the integration of budget planning throughout the organization, ensuring consistency with the overall mission, goals, and strategic objectives of the University. Oversees the establishment and administration of organization-wide financial and business services, to include accounting and management reporting, fiscal planning and analysis, and internal fiscal operations, systems, and controls. Provides functional direction and strategic coordination to the principal budget and planning officers of the various University components. As a member of the University’s financial leadership team, participates in long-range fiscal planning and goal setting for the institution, and in the design and establishment of strategic financial services.
The work location is the University of Maine at Augusta.
Based on the qualifications and experience of the successful applicant, the annual salary range is low to mid $80's plus a 10% employer contribution to the UMS retirement plan. Qualifications:
Required:
Bachelor’s degree in business, accounting, budget, finance, or equivalent field; at least 5 years of experience in a fund-accounting environment with relevant progressive administrative experience, preferably in a college of university setting; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
In-depth knowledge of financial planning, general accounting, and budget management principles and practices related to government and/or educational institutions.
Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to deal credibly and effectively with senior institutional leadership and a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
Skill in the integration of institutional budget processes with the overall mission, objectives, and strategic priorities of the enterprise.
Advanced analytical, evaluative, and objective critical thinking skills and the ability to effectively summarize and present information.
Skill in the use of software to quantify and illustrate complex financial reports, comparisons, impacts, and/or projections.
Excellent written, oral, and electronic communication skills.
Proficiency to compile, analyze, interpret, and present complex annual financial reports, statements, and/or projections.
Excellent supervisory skills and competency to train employees, to include organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments.
Demonstrated competency to foster a cooperative work environment.
Preferred:
Direct working knowledge of and experience with the University of Maine System, the University of Maine at Augusta, and its operating system preferred.
Knowledge of legislative budget process.
Knowledge of institutional and audit requirements for the provision of financial information.
Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of Federal and State financial laws, regulations, and operating guidelines as they pertain to public institutions of higher education.
