Position Details
POSITION SUMMARY:
Provides academic and communication/language intervention for Deaf or Hard of Hearing students with a focus on Early Childhood Intervention and Early Childhood Special Education in specialized classrooms, neighborhood schools, and/or in home instruction for ages birth to 5 years.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Provides instruction in Language, communication, speech and audition skills based on knowledge of language development for Deaf and Hard of Hearing students. Provides language/communication skills intervention within a whole language context. Signing competence on an advanced level for preschool classroom positions is required.
2. Develops goals and objectives that meet students' individual needs and abilities in functional and academic areas.
3. Employs regular assessment of pupil progress used directly in Individual Family Service Plans with specific learning goals, objectives, strategies and evaluation.
4. Works with families, community and ESD preschool classroom teachers and other school personnel to develop and implement instructional programs designed to enhance the student's transition into and access in the general classroom setting. Monitors mainstreaming progress of assigned students, keeping in contact with all personnel working with deaf and hard of hearing students.
5. Provides complete and accurate data to department chairperson and supervisor within designated deadlines.
6. Attends scheduled staff meetings.
7. Provides orientations to families, classroom teachers, school personnel and hearing peers, as requested.
8. Writes lesson plans that can be clearly understood and used by teacher and/or substitute. Plans are aligned with group and individual goals.
9. Participates as a team member on Districts' eligibility, IFSP and 3-year re-evaluation teams. Provides relevant data regarding the impact of the students' hearing loss on their educational progress.
10. Performs other reasonably related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Oregon License with hearing impaired endorsement or eligible for a Conditional Permit for Hearing Impaired Endorsement. Commitment and ability to obtain hearing impaired endorsement if not already licensed
2. Experience teaching students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing
3. Fluency in ASL preferred
4. Experience in Early Intervention/Early Childhood Special Education preferred
COMPENSATION: $50,020 - $97,333 (Annual Salary based on 1.0 FTE)
WORK YEAR: 192 days
FTE: 1.0
This is a temporary position for the remainder of the 2023-2024 school year.
