When you join us as a DevOps Data Engineer, you’ll have the opportunity to be part of our Data Enablement Team where you will help to design, build and support high quality products from our extensive data sources and multi-cloud environment.

This role can be based in either BT's Belfast or Birmingham site
What you’ll be doing
Contribute to the support of scalable data products for our business stakeholders.
Agile development through story planning, estimation and retrospectives.
Aid with the continual improvement of our solutions, i.e. process improvements / operational monitoring / automation opportunities / security.
Collaborate with designers, analysts, and other data and software engineers.
Continual improvements using DevOps best practices.
Provide guidance to offshore DevOps teams.
Input into solution design and discovery sessions on product backlog items.
Improve automated testing and deployments using CI/CD pipelines.
Continual learning through internal and external training.
Skills & Knowledge Required
Essential Skills & Experience:
Hands on DevOps experience in a cloud platform, such as AWS, GCP or Azure.
Hands on DevOps experience in an on premise platform, such as Cloudera.
Be proactive and lead continuous improvement and innovation activities, in relation to data product support.
Experience in Operations within a data and/or software development team, testing, deployment, process automation.
Experience in a story driven agile environment.
Proactive about continuous improvement and innovation.
Knowledge of Software engineering best practices.
Input into software and data product designs, assisting other engineers in creating quality solutions.
Hands on software development in a story driven agile environment.
Desirable Skills & Experience:
Support of data/software products from inception through to production.
Experience in software development, testing and deployment in a story driven agile environment.
SQL, Python, Java, or Scala development experience.
Use of Hadoop, GCP or AWS to build Big Data solutions using some of the following technologies: Scala, Java, Spark, Kafka, Kinesis, Kinesis Analytics, BigQuery, Dataflow, BigTable, SQL, Python.
Knowledge of Infrastructure as Code Toolsets.
Input into data product designs with other engineers to come up with the best solutions.
Hands-on experience with Continuous Integration and Deployment Strategies.
Prior experience using Confluence, JIRA, or other Atlassian tools.
Software version control using Git or SVN.
Presentation of technical issues and successes to other members of the team.
Have a proven ability to learn new technologies and put these into practice.
