Concentric by Ginkgo is seeking a full-time Computational Epidemiologist with expertise in epidemiological modeling and advanced statistical analyses to create computational and statistical models to better understand epidemic risk and infectious disease dynamics. As a Computational Epidemiologist, you will be a part of the Epidemiology and Modeling team within Concentric by Ginkgo. You will work alongside the Product, Digital Surveillance, and Engineering subgroups to meet the needs of internal and external stakeholders
ResponsibilitiesWork as a member of an agile team, attending sprint planning, design meetings, and retrospectivesPerform advanced statistical analysesDevelop Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning models for disease prediction and forecastingCreate and adapt epidemiological models in R or other programming languagesRun large-scale models/simulations in a cloud computing environment (AWS and/or GCP)Conduct reviews of the scientific literature Problem-solve and innovate to find new solutions and overcome challengesProvide general analytic and epidemiological support to different parts of the organizationInterface with internal and external customers as a subject matter expertAssist in ongoing evaluation of data to ensure data quality standards are metMaintain open-line communication, participating in and facilitating meetings and other forms of interactive engagement for productive discussions with program personnel, stakeholders, customers, etcOther duties as assigned to support product requirements and Scopes of WorkMinimum RequirementsMS with 3+ years OR PhD in relevant field (PhD preferred)Strong understanding of infectious disease models and statistical principlesExperience working with big data and machine learning and artificial intelligence methodsExperience using a variety of model types and modeling packages and adapting models as neededExperience developing models from the ground upPreferred Capabilities and ExperienceExperience working in a fast-paced, agile development environmentExperience with building pipelines and scaling models with cloud computing platforms, e.g., AWS, GCPExperience working with socioeconomic data and economic modelsExperience working with geospatial data including shapefiles and rastersThe ability to effectively explain complex statistical models to individuals from different disciplinary backgrounds Experience with SQLExperience with version control (git) and coding best practicesExperience with data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Looker, etc.)Total compensation for this role is market driven, with a starting salary of $96k+, as well as company stock awards. Base pay is ultimately determined based on a candidate's skills, expertise, and experience.
