Northrop Grumman Aeronautic Systems has an opening for a Communications Hardware Engineer/Principal Communications Hardware Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in Palmdale, CA.
**This position may be filled by either a Communications Hardware Engineer level or a Principal Communications Hardware Engineer level based on the qualifications listed.
Essential Functions:
Design of rack-based communication, test, support equipment, and cabling to meet system requirements, to include:
Perform electrical and mechanical (signal, power & thermal) analysis at the rack level
Generation of engineering drawings in accordance with ASME and IEEE standards, including rack assembly drawings, interconnect wiring diagrams and custom cable assemblies
Specification of rack cabling (RF, optical, 1553, power) and cooling systems
Production and fielding of hardware, to include:
Installation of communication, test and support equipment in lab and field environments
Providing lab and site integration, test, and maintenance support
Participate in troubleshooting systems to resolve complex issues, interact and coordinate with responsible communications engineers responsible for sustaining communication sub-systems
Basic Qualifications:
Communications Hardware Engineer (T02):
Bachelor of Science Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) related field with 2 or more years of engineering experience or MS with 0 years or more year of engineering experience or Ph.D. with 0 or more years of engineering experience
Active, in-scope Secret clearance
Ability to obtain and maintain Special Program Access (SAP/PAR) to start
Working knowledge of governing and industry standards to include MIL-STD-1553, MIL-STD-1760, MIL-STD-100G, and ASME Y14.100
Experience with drawing and release tools - (CATIA V5, Visio, Teamcenter Enterprise) and modeling.
Basic Qualifications:
Principal Communications Hardware Engineer (T03):
Bachelor of Science Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) related field with 5 or more years of engineering experience or MS with 3 years or more year of engineering experience or Ph.D. with 2 or more years of engineering experience
Active, in-scope Secret clearance
Ability to obtain and maintain Special Program Access (SAP/PAR) to start
Working knowledge of governing and industry standards to include MIL-STD-1553, MIL-STD-1760, MIL-STD-100G, and ASME Y14.100
Experience with drawing and release tools - (CATIA V5, Visio, Teamcenter Enterprise) and modeling.
Preferred Qualifications :
Ability to travel up to 25%
Must have high attention to detail and emphasis on first time quality
Must be physically able to move up to 50 lbs
Must have color vision to identify cables and wires
Must have strong communication and interpersonal skills with an aptitude to learn new material quickly
Working knowledge of various communication protocols including Ethernet, 1553 bus systems and FibreChannel
Working knowledge of communication engineering theory and RF systems
Experience with production of complex systems

Salary Range: $104,600 - $157,000
Salary Range 2: $129,700 - $194,500
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
