Job Description
The Massachusetts Department of Mental Health (DMH) is seeking a dynamic clinical social worker who would be responsible for Inpatient Social Work care of patients assigned to their treatment team. Provides clients with clinical social work services in order to promote and maintain maximum psychosocial functioning; function as an integral members of multi-disciplinary treatment teams; perform intake and eligibility functions, perform diagnostic evaluations, develop and implement treatment, habilitation , rehabilitation, crisis, transfer and or discharge plans; prepare professional documentation; develop and evaluate programs; provide treatment and psychotherapy to individuals, groups and families; provide advocacy; supervise staff and students; provide consultation and education.
Please Note: This position is 40 hours per week. The selected candidate will work from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday to Saturday. The days off are Sunday and Monday.
Duties and Responsibilities (these are not all inclusive):
Provides direct clinical services and supportive counseling to assigned team patients on a 16-bed acute unit to ensure most appropriate treatment and assessments. Actively facilitates and participates as a member of the comprehensive treatment team, assisting assigned patients in development of a person-centered treatment plan, with appropriate goals and targeted interventions based on findings of assessments completed. Completes and files all social work assessments, progress notes, group documentation, periodic/annual reviews and applications for services in a complete and timely manner according to agency protocol and required time frames, utilizing appropriate formats and resources. Participates in meetings with internal and external providers regarding intake, diagnosis, and treatment and discharge patients. Determines appropriate transition and discharge plans and identifies the availability and need for resources. Develops and maintains effective, collaborative working relationships with agency staff and programs, including attending all relevant meetings.Provides proactive backup to other team members or social workers as necessary for completion of social assessments and essential activities to provide coverage during social work/other team member's absence. Participates on various site, area and statewide committees as necessary. Keeps informed of developments in community resources, mental health trends, and practices and shares these with social work staff. Advises and assists in difficult diagnostic/systems problems encounters by agency staff and assists in resolving problems by acting as an advocate for patient on site. Provide group therapy as part of an active treatment schedule as assigned. Perform other related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
Knowledge of principles, practices and techniques of counseling.Ability to gather information through questioning and observing individuals and by examining records and documents. Ability to work cooperatively and effectively with staff members, patients and the representatives of community organizations.Ability to work within a team setting.Knowledge of principles and methods of social casework, group work and community organizations.Knowledge of the etiology and assessment of mental illness and treatment techniques for assisting individuals with mental illness, their families, groups, and communities to enhance their individual and collective wellbeing by developing their skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bilingual or multilingual.Experience working with individuals with serious mental illness, behavioral or mood disturbances in an inpatient setting.

Qualifications

MINIMUM ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS:
REQUIRED WORK EXPERIENCE: None. (See Required Education and Licenses.)
REQUIRED EDUCATION: A Master's or higher degree in social work.
LICENSES: Based on assignment, travel may be required. Those employees who elect to use a motor vehicle for travel must have a current and valid Massachusetts Motor Vehicle Operator's license or the equivalent from another state.
- Current and valid licensure as a Licensed Certified Social Worker or Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker by the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Social Work.
