Procedures include routine diagnostic cardiac catheterization, interventional procedures (balloon dilations, stent placements, coil embolization, etc.), electrophysiology procedures, tilt table studies, myocardial biopsies, and more. Responsible for monitoring, recording, generating reports on patients' vitals and hemodynamic data during procedures. Performs clinical testing on blood gases, oxygen saturations, and activated clotting times according to jointly established policies and procedures, set forth by the hospital's clinical laboratory and pediatric cardiology.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Monitors EKG and pressure wave forms throughout cardiac catheterization procedures. Analyzes changes in: a) EKG conduction and rate b) intracardiac pressures and keeps physician informed during a procedure.
Maintains a complete record of all events occurring during a catheterization laboratory procedure through the use of an on-line computer log (i.e. medications given, fluid given and their effect, pressures measured, blood oxygen saturations and gases measured, activated clotting time values, catheter sites, type, and amount of contrast injected, angles/radiographic parameters required of all angiograms, running commentary on patient's condition, etc.)
Performs clinical testing for blood gas analysis, oxygen saturation, and activated clotting time during catheterization procedures.
Operates during cath procedures - contrast power injector, checks and sets x-ray factors as ordered by physician, hemodynamic and electrophysiology recorder, video/digital recorders during/post angiograms, O2 consumption line, thermodilution machine, bloom stimulator, etc.
As scheduled and/or necessary, calibrates and performs quality control of the blood gas/co-oximeter analyzer, activated clotting time machine, O2 consumption machine, etc. Maintains accurate logs for designated machines. Adheres to established policies/procedures re: maintenance, clinical testing, quality control, proficiency testing, and reporting of results

Measures all pressure wave forms, enters data into computer, flags certain values (of pressure and/or saturation) for calculation purposes, indicates pull-back gradients, and reviews all entered data for errors in order to generate catheterization or procedural report.
Performs related non-invasive procedures as requested and/or scheduled EKGs, Holter placements, Event monitor registration and teaching, stress-tests, etc.) on in-house, ambulatory, and satellite clinic patients.
