A Breastfeeding Peer Counselor is a role model, educator and support person with a commitment to promote breastfeeding as the method of infant feeding to primarily WIC pregnant/breastfeeding women and their families.
Duties:
Provide encouragement and act as a resource to women who plan to breastfed or are currently breastfeeding.Assist clients in making an infant feeding decision and to have a successful breastfeeding experience.Become familiar with resources available to clients.Anticipate the needs and questions of a new breastfeeding mother.Recognize when to refer mother to other resources during critical periods when mothers may experience difficulty.Receive day-to-day direction by the Breastfeeding Peer Counselor Coordinator as needed and supervision by the Nursing Directors.Receive breastfeeding support referrals through MI-WIC, DHD4 Staff, community organizations, local hospitals and provider offices.Wages: $14.95 per hour, increasing to $15.93 after successful completion of probationary period, in accordance with Union contract.
This is part-time, 20 hours per week
