  The Branch Underwriter is to assist with the achievement of effective and profitable Branch Underwriting results according to Company Goals and Guidelines in support of the South Midwest Region: Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, and Missouri. This position exists to ensure profitable growth of insurance business through proper classification and pricing of risks in order to exceed Line of Business goals.

  This is a remote role we will consider candidates located in IL, IN, MO or KY.

  WHAT YOU WILL DO

  Executes underwriting processes relative to insurance policies.

  Evaluates complex business for risk acceptability based on criteria such as exposure, loss frequency and severity, profitability requirements, and rating plans/modifications. Uses underwriting referral authority to accept or reject simple to moderately complex risks, as directed by Branch Manager. Evaluates risks' characteristics (operations, financials, management, employees, prior experience, etc.) as compared to the average in its class. Prices assigned risks for profit within Company underwriting guidelines. Assumes responsibility for special projects as assigned by management; projects may include development of new products, programs, underwriting tools, etc.

  Evaluates business for risk acceptability.

  Verifies coverage eligibility. Communicates effectively via phone calls and email to gather and analyze necessary information critical to the Underwriting process. Occasionally goes out on field visits to create new business opportunities and improve policy renewal retention. Maintains Underwriting quality standards.

  Delivers superior customer service through collaborative relationships.

  May be asked to represent department in cross-functional project teams. Assists department management team with training and development of professional and clerical underwriting staff. Works with senior level underwriters to establish collaborative relationships with agencies/producers to understand the external marketplace.

  WHAT YOU BRING TO THE ROLE

  High school diploma or general education diploma (GED) required. Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university preferred in Business, Accounting, Statistics or related field. Minimum 3 years of related experience and/or training; or, equivalent combination of education and experience.

  KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

  Working knowledge of underwriting principles and practices. Knows and applies fundamental Underwriting concepts, practices, and procedures in area of specialization. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.

  COMPENSATION

  The salary range listed for this position, $74,932.01 to $126,367.76, is exclusive of fringe benefits and potential bonuses. If hired at ICW Group, your final base salary compensation will be determined by factors such as skills, experience and/or education. In addition, we believe in the importance of pay equity and consider internal equity of our current team members as part of any final offer. We typically do not hire towards the maximum of the range in order to allow for future and continued salary growth. We also offer a substantial benefits package outlined below.
