General Summary:
Researches, designs, develops, and tests algorithms that enable autonomous and self-driving vehicles. Enhances multiple technologies including, camera perception; high precision localization; radar perception; lidar perception; precise sensor synchronization and calibration; multi-sensor fusion; estimation and tracking of static and dynamic objects in the environment; behavior prediction of agents; planning of autonomous vehicle decisions, trajectory and speed; autonomous vehicle control to achieve desired trajectory. Designs innovated AI algorithms for autonomous driving use cases and understands constraints for mapping to embedded ADAS hardware. Collaborates with multiple disciplines across Qualcomm to lead innovation across the industry.
Minimum Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field and 2+ years of Systems Engineering or related work experience.
OR
Master's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field and 1+ year of Systems Engineering or related work experience.
OR
PhD in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
Preferred Qualifications:
Ph.D. + 2 years industry experience in behavior planning and/or motion forecasting.
Experience in data driven planning approaches like deep reinforcement learning, imitation learning, MCTS, etc.
Proficient in variety of deep learning models like CNN, RNN, Transformers and other generative AI models.
Experience designing, training, analyzing, evaluating, and deploying neural networks with PyTorch or other deep learning frameworks.
3+ years of experience with programming languages such as Python, C++ etc. Ability to write high quality, well-structured and tested Python code.
Experience in autonomous driving orapplied robotics domains.
Experience with offline reinforcement learning and recurrent world models.
Analytical and scientific mindset, with the ability to solve complex problems along with passion to take research ideas to production.
Experience with robust software design for safety-critical systems.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
Applies knowledge of ADAS Systems to develop and enhance technologies for autonomous driving.
Researches and develops novel algorithms to solve difficult problems related to behavior planning under uncertainty.
Designs driving policies for complex maneuvers in urban environments with many other agents.
Implements ideas in software (Python and C++) and collaborates with software engineers on development.
Works closely with prediction and motion planning teams to define interfaces, requirements, and KPIs.
Works closely with test engineers to develop test plans to validate performance in simulations and real-world testing.
Provides support for patentable ideas and assists with their implementation.
Networks with cross-functional teams and leverages other resources to acquire knowledge of ADAS industry trends, and advances in the field.
Writes detailed technical documentation and descriptions of research findings for projects to ensure engineers can implement research.
Level of Responsibility:
• Works independently with minimal supervision.
• Decision-making may affect work beyond immediate work group.
• Requires verbal and written communication skills to convey information. May require basic negotiation, influence, tact, etc. .
• Has a moderate amount of influence over key organizational decisions.
• Tasks require multiple steps which can be performed in various orders; some planning, problem-solving, and prioritization must occur to complete the tasks effectively.

Pay range:
$114,500.00 - $171,500.00
The above pay scale reflects the broad, minimum to maximum, pay scale for this job code for the location for which it has been posted. Even more importantly, please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Qualcomm. We also offer a competitive annual discretionary bonus program and opportunity for annual RSU grants (employees on sales-incentive plans are not eligible for our annual bonus).
