The Transmission Planning & Development team is looking for an Associate Engineer, Transmission Planning to be part of redesigning company systems to integrate and deliver renewable supplies to customers. With the Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act (CLCPA), New York is on a path to achieve 70% of renewable energy generation by 2030 and reach a carbon-neutral economy. In this role, you are focused on expansion of the internal transmission system in alignment with state policy as we move away from fossil fuels. You will be a part of building the transmission plan for the future, analyzing system and performing reliability assessments, running studies on system criteria, stimulations and system modeling, and forecasting to ensure operations are in line with regulations and document reports for improvements. Must have excellent written and verbal communication to give updates and assist in providing solutions to company leadership.
Core Responsibilities:
Assist Company efforts to adopt requirements of New York State clean energy agenda into Con Edison's Transmission Master Plan.
Develop Con Edison's short- and long- term bulk electric system studies to reliably integrate Offshore Wind, Utility Scale Energy Storage, Solar and other new renewable technologies.
Conduct thermal, voltage, short circuit, and stability analysis to ensure bulk power system reliability.
Develop and recommend transmission system modifications/upgrades to reliably integrate Offshore Wind, Energy Storage systems, Solar, and other innovative technologies.
Provide technical expertise and guidance in evaluating reliability ben! efits of proposed projects.
Coordinate, review, and perform interconnection studies for Company owned projects.
Interface with NYISO to coordinate local and bulk electric transmission system studies and plans.
Skills and Requirements
2+ years experience in planning, design, and/or operation of the bulk electrical transmission system AND Bachelor's Degree in Engineering
Practical experience in the design and /or operation of the electric power system.
Proficient using PSS/E, TARA, Aspen, Power flow, EMP (Electric Mechanical Power) or equivalent power system simulation programs to develop models of electric transmission system based on criteria from state/local standards and regulations such as NERC, CLCPA, or CGGP.
Utilities industry experience and understanding electrical engineering.
