The Josef Korbel School of International Studies at the University of Denveris an interdisciplinary professional school of international studies andpublic policy that prepares students for careers in the public, private,and non-profit sectors. Our program provides students with the knowledge,skills, and networks to design policies, implement programs, and realizeoutcomes that enhance human capabilities around the world. We offer graduatedegrees in International Development; International Human Rights;International Studies; International Security; Global Economic Affairs;Global Environmental Sustainability; and Public Policy as well as severalcertificate programs. The School's Office of Career and ProfessionalDevelopment provides services to all Korbel graduate students and alumni ofthe M.A., M.P.P., and Ph.D. programs and the International andIntercultural Communication Program. The fast-paced office, with 4professional staff and 7-10 student employees, plays a critical role for students in the professional degree programs.
Position Summary
This position will manage the development and implementation of anAmeriCorps-supported grant that will place DU students with Colorado-basednon-profit and government institutions in internships designed to enhancetheir educational experience while preparing students for the workforce. TheJosef Korbel School of International Studies at the University of Denver,through its Office of Career and Professional Development (OCPD), hasbeen awarded an AmeriCorps Planning Grant to develop a program that placesAmeriCorps members in internships where they serve high-needs communitieswhile also gaining valuable, career-advancing skills and earn a livingstipend. The Assistant Director will manage the one-year planning process andsubsequent implementation of the grant.
This position is a full-time, 1.0 FTE benefitted position reporting to theDirector for the Office of Career and Professional Development at the KorbelSchool of International Studies.
Continuation of this position is contingent upon receiving additional grantfunding.
Essential Functions
Provide strategic vision for the development of the AmeriCorps internshipprogram that meets Korbel's and DU's pedagogical requirements, supportsthe 4D experience, and fulfills the precepts of the AmeriCorps grant programOversee marketing, communications, and outreach to all stakeholdersincluding external employer partners, students, and the funder - ServeColorado/AmeriCorps.Develop and manage relationships with Colorado-based non-profit andgovernment partners interested in community-engaged workWork in partnership with other units across the DU campus including Centerfor Community Engagement, DU's Career and Professional Development, andCenter for Teaching & LearningDevelop and implement training and professional development programs thataugment the AmeriCorps internship experience for participating studentsAdvise and provide career coaching for Korbel graduate students as relatedto AmeriCorps internship opportunitiesMaintain relationship with the funder, Serve Colorado/AmeriCorpsProgram Development, Management and Administration
Develop a target list of Colorado public and non-profit organizations thatfit the Serve Colorado AmeriCorps criteria
Manage outreach and engagement with targeted nonprofit and governmentpartners to develop internshipsManage operations grant application process (data, narrative,budgets, schedules, etc.) including coordination with ServeColorado/AmeriCorps and OSRP, Korbel School's Director of Budget andFinance, Associate Dean of Administration, Assistant Dean for ExternalRelations, and the Director of the Office of Career and ProfessionalDevelopmenManage development of student recruitment and marketing materials to supportprogram goals and timelinesDevelop professional development p ograms and events to augment AmeriCorpsmembers' experienceManage MOU process for program partners as neededParticipate in AmeriCorps training and grantee cohort programsCoordinate AmeriCorps members' living stipend processSupervision
