Supports daily selling activities of The Giant Company and Giant Food with a consumer-centric focus through Category, Merchandising and Pricing (CMP) responsibilities. Responsible for managing vendor relationships with some direction from the Category Manager (CM).
Provides leadership coverage for the Category team working to resolve where appropriate level of duties are required. Will own the processes of shelf presentation, assortment decisions, cost agreements, promotional planning as well as product and program development for assigned Categories. Will work collaboratively with Shelf Merchandising, Great Local Brands (GLBs) Merchandising, Pricing and Replenishment to implement the execution of a comprehensive and well-integrated Category plan in support of each GLB strategy and Integrated Business Plan.

Assists in providing day to day direction for implementation and support of strategies and initiatives of Category, Merchandising & Pricing.Build a cohesive Category strategy that will meet the needs of the consumers and achieve Category goals.Work collaboratively across departments to meet budgeted key performance metrics.Responsible for driving positive Sales, Movement, Market Share, and Net Contribution metrics as well as profit and shrink.Drive effective programs with vendors and actively seeking out new opportunities to reduce costs while maintaining an efficient item mix.In collaboration with CM, responsible for bargaining the lowest cost, including all elements that impact costs such as logistics, distribution, shrink, and reclaim.Use assortment principles as brand guidelines to ensure each brand has the right product on the shelf at the right time.Understand what consumers value most from each Category and meet their needs in a profitable way.Ensure promotional plans are developed using lead items that will drive incremental sales and margin.Follow standard methodology promotional planning, feature/display activity, and in-store shopper marketing investments to optimally grow market share while meeting margin targets.Validate compliance of the on-shelf Category assortment presentation and item mix. Ensure it reflects the outstanding needs of each Category while aligning with each brand. Components to be validated include, but are not limited to:Apply standard methodology shelf placement principles, planograms production and versioning.
The Essentials In Your Cart - The required ingredients
Bachelor's Degree required; Master of Business Administration Degree (MBA) preferred6+ years combined experience in retail, merchandising, category, pricing, logistics, supply chain, procurement, and distributionRequires travel - typically 8 - 12%

Knowledge of applicable practice areas, i.e., Center Store categories.Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite of Programs.Positive relationship skills with vendors, brokers and third party consultants.
