Job Summary
The Area Coordinator is a member of the Hall Supervision and Staffingteam within Residential Life - University Housing. Area Coordinators areresponsible for the implementation of a residential curriculum modelfocused on educating students in a residential area (areas range in sizefrom 1,800 - 2,800 students in a total resident population ofapproximately 8,500) in the areas of academic success, personal growth,community engagement and social justice exploration. This isaccomplished via the direct supervision of full-time professional staffand overall management and leadership within Residential Life, includingthe development of policies and procedures for the area and unit.
Staff Supervision, Recruitment, and Curricular Development
Directly supervise 4 to 5 full-time professional residence halldirectors and 1-3 desk supervisors, conducting regular one-on-onesupervisory meetings to meet the learning needs of each staffmember. Supervisors will engage and implement University Housing\'sdiversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives.Participate in the recruitment, selection, and indirect supervisionof student staff with the ability to implement residentialcurriculum strategies as well as operational duties, includingResident Advisors, Office Assistants, Senior Clerks, and DeskClerks.Design, implement and evaluate a broad range of cultural,educational, and inclusive training and development sessions thatsupport the diverse needs of professional staff, support staff, andparaprofessional staff in support of the mission of the Universityand University Housing.Role model a scholar-practitioner approach via engagement withstudent development research and participation in educationaltraining and development opportunities.Lead staff in the creation and implementation of lesson plans toachieve the goals and learning outcomes of the residentialcurriculum in the areas of Academic Success, Social JusticeExploration, Personal Growth and Community Engagement.Oversee the evaluation and assessment of curricular strategieswithin the area.Assist in recruitment and selection of professional and supportstaff with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to implement ourcurricular model. Serve as chairpersons for various professionalstaff selection committees as needed.Conduct informal and formal performance appraisals for professionaland support staff.Provide leadership for area staff on all hall operations andadministrative duties.Report directly to one of the two Assistant Directors of Housing forResidential Life Hall Supervision and Staffing.Community Development and Leadership
Provide leadership, guidance and support to staff, students, andstudent groups in the ongoing development and implementation of ourresidential curriculum model.Assume a leadership role in the area in promoting social justiceeducation and inclusivity in policy and program development.Provide leadership development opportunities for members of area orcampus student groups through structured advising and mentoringfocused on educational opportunities that develop competencies thatequip Illinois students to lead in a global community.Provide educational opportunities for staff and students to considerstrategies for the development of intellectually engaging inclusivecommunities that meet curricular goals and outcomes.Provide guidance to Residence Hall Directors as they considerrestorative and educ tional measures to address student behavior,judicial procedures, and emergency response as hall/campus judicialofficers.Serve as a University level judicial officer and conduct appealagent for Residence Hall Director sanctioning, utilizing educationalstrategies to help students develop an understanding of socialresponsibility and their individual impact within a largercommunity.Develop collaborative relationships with staff and faculty inStudent Affairs and Academic Affairs.Work collaboratively with Program Director(s) of Living LearningCommunities (LLCs) in the area, facilitating relationship buildingand understanding of shared roles and responsibilities between theResidence Hall Directors and the LLC staff as it relates to theimplementation of the residential curriculum model for LLCcommunities.Serve on the University Housing Hate/Bias Incident Response Team,developing restorative educational response measures forimplementation.Administrative
Supervise, lead and manage Residential Life/University Housingoperational processes (i.e. opening, closing, damage billing, fireinspections, key inventories, etc.).
Serve on and lead Residential Life committees focused on strategicplanning, and operational processes.
Provide oversight of area/hall offices, ensuring the provision oflearning-centered customer service to students.
