Work Arrangement
Hybrid: Position does not require an employee to be on-site full-time, but the general expectation is that the employee be on-site an average of three (3) days each week.
The Speech and Acoustics Advanced Technologies team is developing natural language, voice, and acoustic technologies for future vehicles. We are looking to hire a 2024 PhD Intern - Large Language Models to support the development of our future virtual assistant for vehicle domains.
You will work as a team member of the Virtual Assistant Extension Algorithms team taking part in development of an advanced virtual assistant, from conceptualization to software that will be deployed to production on GM vehicles.
What You'll Do
Assist in development of LLM-based , data driven spoken dialog system solutions Support the development of voice assistant systems and proof of concept Support the development of tools for data collection and analysis of spoken or textual data Software development in Java, C# and Python Travel as required

Required Qualifications
Enrolled in PhD program in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or related field Technical experience in one or more of the domains below: LLM technologies (GPT models, llama, langchain) Speech recognition technologies Data driven natural language understanding Experience in rapid prototype development Excellent oral and written communication skills in English Excellent analytical ability where problems are unusual, complex, or ambiguous Excellent interpersonal skills to work independently and collaboratively with others
What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)
2 years of experience in development of data driven algorithms for speech and language processing 2 years of experience in product development, analysis and problem solving
GM will provide a one-time lump sum taxable stipend payment to each student selected for the 2024 Student Program.
The salary range for this role is $8,000-$9,400 per month, dependent upon experience.
