Description
Do you want to lay the science foundation for the future of lunar exploration?
Are you a team player who thrives working in collaboration with other researchers?
If so, we are looking for someone like you for a postdoctoral position at APL!
The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory seeks a post-doctoral researcher passionate about analyzing remote sensing data (e.g., Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter Camera, ShadowCam, MiniRF) of the Moon's south polar region. The successful candidate will play a key role in support of the Artemis III Geology Team, providing scientific analysis of the local geology and environment, and planning for Artemis III surface activities. The post-doc will also be encouraged to establish and conduct independent research related to lunar volatiles and/or rocky planet geology.
We seek a recent Ph.D. graduate (by spring 2024) with a strong background in planetary geology, airless body surface processes, and/or volatiles research, and experience with the analysis of spacecraft data of planetary bodies. An interest working as part of a large and interdisciplinary team is crucial, and experience in using Geographic Information System (GIS) software is highly desired.
If selected, you will have a 2- or 3-year appointment in APL's Moon and Rocky Planets Group, a roughly 30-person, intellectually diverse group that is part of the more than 1400 scientists, engineers, and staff that make up the Space Exploration Sector. Opportunities exist to build on APL's existing leadership roles in lunar and planetary science. The group runs a half-dozen research laboratories and supports numerous active and planned missions throughout the solar system.
