Your Opportunity
Stantec's Geotechnical practice has an immediate opportunity for a senior level Geotechnical or Civil Engineer. As a senior engineer, you will direct the work on small and large projects, as well as a be a team member for more complex projects. The senior engineer should be able to oversee and direct the entire project from the proposal phase to IFB design package. The senior engineer will be forward thinking and be able to envision the completed design such that he or she can direct the team members throughout the design process. The senior engineer will also evaluate, select, specify, and engineer solutions for the project. You will perform a variety of tasks which may include client and team coordination, lead weekly team meetings, review calculations, attend site visits and client presentations, and mentoring staff. The projects assigned may have complex features that will require the application of mature knowledge and experience. You will lead the analysis of proposed projects to ensure structural reliability, resource efficiency and cost-effectiveness. The projects may include specialized services such as the analysis and design of shallow and deep foundation elements, dam and levee structures, ground improvement design, karst explorations, and various site developments for renewable energy.
As a senior engineer, you will perform a variety of tasks related to geotechnical and civil engineering in support of transportation, dam, power, and infrastructure projects that will include working with multiple discipline groups in various offices to achieve and provide a quality design product to our clients. In general, a senior level engineer will work directly with the Project Technical Lead and Project Manager to provide a quality design deliverable that will result in repeat business and client growth.
Your Key Responsibilities
Maintaining and enhancing our reputation with clients, approval agencies and industry professionals as an outstanding service provider.
Growing internal and external networks to enhance Stantec’s reputation and identifying additional talent to join our team.
Assists Project Technical Leads and Project Managers in establishing project objectives, procedures, and performance standards, and leading multi-disciplinary teams on proposals, planning studies, feasibility through final designs, and construction services for geotechnical engineering projects.
Manage and lead other team members which could be local or regional, while working on other projects, complete tasks, and delegate specific project tasks to other team members as appropriate.
Conduct and/or review analyses, develop engineering calculation packages, and perform other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned and under the direction of a Project Technical Lead or Project Manager.
Providing mentoring and training for junior staff.
Developing client relationships to facilitate project activities.
Promoting collaboration and teamwork across business lines and geographies.
Serving as Engineer-of-Record on projects.
Leading project coordination meetings with internal team members and/or external consultants, owner and contractor, sub-contractors, and vendors.
Engaging in Professional organizations that align with expertise, authoring technical papers and delivering technical presentations for conference and symposia events.
Assists in providing support services during construction that can include submittal reviews, responses to requests for information, and contract document clarifications.
Assist in the development of new standards and specifications for the work elements designed by your discipline group and interact with other Stantec teams to complete the design package for various sized projects across North America.
Qualifications
Your Capabilities and Credentials
Ability to lead technical teams and collaborate in a project team setting and interact with clients daily.
Excellent time management skills with the ability to understand project and team roles and scheduling, budgeting, and efficient use of time and resources.
Understanding client expectations, budgeting, proposal writing, and producing high-quality deliverables
Strong understanding and technical ability in producing and leading teams through all phases of a design project (proposal, calculations, construction drawings, and final reports)
An understanding of state and federal regulations and the ability to adapt to client-specific requirements.
Efficient project management/technical leadership of assigned tasks on multiple concurrent projects.
Ability to check the work of others for accuracy and completeness and manage two or three direct team members.
Excellent team-building skills and a willingness to work on multiple teams/disciplines with varying backgrounds.
Strong knowledge of civil and geotechnical systems means and methods, materials, and industry standards.
Ability to interpret sketches, engineering drawings, and other similar materials.
Basic experience in Microsoft Office, and familiarity with (but not required) AutoCAD Civil3D, Geostudio Software Suite, Plaxis, ENSOFT LPILE, FB Deep/MultiPier, DigiPro II, and gINT.
Provide support in permitting process of projects, if needed.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in civil or Geotechnical Engineering. Master preferred.
Licensed Professional Engineer in at least one jurisdiction with the ability to obtain reciprocity in other states.
Minimum of 10 to 15 years of experience
Preferred USACE, SFWMD, DOT, and/or CCR experience
Travel/ client site, 10% to 20% of the time for project meetings
Flexible office and field arrangements depending on project activities. Typical office environment working with computers and working at a desk for long periods. Fieldwork may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
