Responsibilities

Provide planning, definition, implementation, and operational management of global communications systems to yield more effective and flexible global SATCOM support. Employ an integrated systems approach to assist with properly developing, implementing, testing, planning, and managing SATCOM. Specifically:
Support the SIOD Director with staff planning functions.
Present clear, concise, and well-structured oral presentations that address the designated issues.
Identify problems and attempts to resolve conflicts in a timely manner through persuasive discussions with responsible members in a meeting or working group.
Coordinate with base officials and working groups, telephone companies, manufacturers, vendors, customers, and engineering/installation personnel.
Provide briefings and develops recommendations concerning long-range information system objectives.
Provide input in the development of operator’s manuals and instructions so that there is adequate explanation and instruction to prevent work stoppage or slowdown.
Participate in discussions, meetings, committees or special projects and presents briefings and prepares recommendations and reports.
Become certified in the SATCOM Watch Officer and/or the SATCOM EMI Watch Officer duty positions and be prepared to pull crew rotation 24/7/365 as required.
Monitor, collect, analyze, and synthesize SATCOM network data to maintain current operational picture to support senior space leadership decision making during routine daily operations, crisis, and contingency.
Serves as subject matter expert on all SATCOM systems.
Acts as the operational focal point of the SIOD receiving data from all C-SSEs (Narrowband, Wideband, Protected Band, and Commercial) and the EMI Cell to develop and maintain knowledge of constellation and ground network status.
Maintains current, accurate, and complete understanding of ongoing SATCOM activities, changes, and issues.
Ensures mutual understanding of status and issues between SATCOM users, technical experts, and military leadership.
Presents SATCOM COP to JFSCC leadership weekly during the CDR’s Update Brief (CUB) and other occasions when requested.
Supports and participates in space exercises and wargames.
Qualifications
5-8 years of experience as an Operational SATCOM Analyst or as a SATCOM Staff Planner
Knowledge of various SATCOM bandwidth and assets
Experience preparing high level briefing and white papers
Experience with EMI protocols, directives and procedures
TS/SCI Clearance is required

While performing the duties of this job, the employee will regularly sit, walk, stand and climb stairs and steps. May require walking long distance from parking to work station. Occasionally, movement that requires twisting at the neck and/or trunk more than the average person, squatting/ stooping/kneeling, reaching above the head, and forward motion will be required. The employee will continuously be required to repeat the same hand, arm, or finger motion many times. Manual and finger dexterity are essential to this position. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, distance, depth perception and telling differences among colors. The employee must be able to communicate through speech with clients and public. Hearing requirements include conversation in both quiet and noisy environments. Lifting may require floor to waist, waist to shoulder, or shoulder to overhead movement of up to 20 pounds. This position demands tolerance for various levels of mental stress.
