Optical Scientist Responsibilities:
Conduct research into fundamental computer and information science to develop the next generation near to eye display (NED) and imaging 3-D technologies, hardware, and systems.
Analyze optical problems in order to develop and design solutions to hardware, middleware, and applications.
Develop advanced optical components and systems including imaging and display systems using spatial light modulators, diffractive optics, optical materials, and thin-films optics.
Modeling and prototyping of critical technologies to drive system performance and to validate achievable visual experience.
Perform research and development for emerging concepts and assess application NEDs.
Support evaluation and characterization of optical components and system integration.
Collaborate with the larger research team to explore concepts to advance display system architectures and develop display pipeline to demonstrate compelling experience.
Explore optical requirements to create new virtual experiences and technological advances necessary to create product architectures that can deliver these requirements by using optical technologies such as Zemax, FRED, and ASAP.
Develop and improve current systems that form the basis of our current head mount display experience.
Employ computer systems to program, set up functions, enter data, and process information to improve and develop the next generation eye display and imaging systems.
Support optical modeling and experimentation.
Analyze information and evaluate results to choose the best solutions and solve problems.
Collaborate with other researchers and engineers to develop concepts that advance the entire product pipeline (hardware, middleware, and applications).
Minimum Qualifications:

Requires a Master's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Optical Sciences, Information Systems, Physics, Applied Sciences, or a related field. Requires completion of a university-level course, research project, internship, or thesis in the following:
Solving analytical problems using quantitative approaches
Experience with optical or computer hardware analysis
Gathering or analyzing complex, high-volume, high-dimensionality data from varying sources
Communicating complex research in a clear, precise, and actionable manner
Performing research that enables improvements in hardware and information processing
Devising better data-driven models for improved hardware performance
Adapting standard machine learning methods to best enterprise modern parallel environments: distributed clusters, multicore SMP, or GPU
Knowledge of hardware and software integration
Experience with programming languages such as Java, C++, Perl, or Python
Public Compensation:
$198,940/year to $235,000/year + bonus + equity + benefits
