Our Mission Statement: The Rescue Mission of Utica is a Christian ministry unconditionally endeavoring to assess and meet the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of the people coming for assistance.SUMMARY: This is a professional staff position responsible for providing direct care to chemically dependent individuals, as well as direct supervision of primary care staff.PRIMARY DUTIES: • Screen potential clients. • Initiate and follow all medical and/or psychiatric emergency procedures in situations dictating need for such interventions. • Obtain, transcribe and administer medications per physician order and agency policy. • Communicate need to obtain and refill any client medication via “obtaining prescriptions and refills” form. • Provide direct clinical nursing care per physician orders and in accordance with all clinical protocols. • Monitor and report withdrawal process and medical condition of any clients under the influence of alcohol or other chemical substances. • Arrange for the transfer of any client needing medical evaluation or higher level of care to local hospital as necessary. • Properly perform, document or oversee delegated documentation of shift notes, opening notes, behavioral incidents, obtaining prescriptions and refills form, admission and discharge reports, screening, intake and discharges and all NYS OASAS forms. • Properly perform or oversee delegated performance and documentation of vital signs. • Answer telephones, complete telephone intakes and direct calls to appropriate staff. • Provide direct supervision to members of primary staff in the performance of general daily duties and delegate job assignments as necessary to assure the smooth coordination and flow of daily activities. • Strictly follow all established Infection Control policies. • Follow established emergency procedure including fire drills, evacuation procedures and disaster plans. Conduct fire drills as assigned by the Nursing Supervisor. • Help maintain safety and security by monitoring cameras, checking client belongings, monitoring client activities, performing building checks and practicing defense driving in any operation of agency van. • Perform additional job duties/responsibilities as delegated by the Nursing Supervisor. • Conduct Program Orientation or Health Education groups under instruction of Nursing Supervisor or Program Director. • Participate in daily multi-disciplinary Treatment Team meeting and communicate any relevant information to primary care team members. • Communicate effectively with all members of program staff including counselors, Nursing Supervisor and Program Director. This includes immediate notification to Supervisor of any problems, concerns or situations needing a higher level of decision-making. • Maintain professional conduct with co-workers and clients. • Work cooperatively as a team member with all staff members. • Discuss any areas of concern with the Nursing Supervisor or Program Director. • Attend all mandatory Nursing and Staff meetings or in-services. • Serve in an on-call capacity on weekends per rotation. • Work cooperatively with other agencies to ensure coordination of services.CORE COMPETENCIES: • Must be a graduate of an accredited school of nursing with current LPN licensing and registration from the NYS Education Department. • Must have current, clean and valid New York State driver’s license. • Must obtain CPR certification within 90 days of hire and maintain current certification throughout period of employment. • Knowledge of and ability to operate the following: agency vehicles, telephone, dishwasher, garbage disposal, microwave oven, TV/VCR, CD/cassette player, washing machine and dryer, stethoscope, blood pressure cuff, building entrance system, and communication equipment. • Strong oral and written communication skills. • Maintains good attendance, punctuality, and a neat appearance. • Maintains professional conduct with co-worker and clients. • Ability to perform all work in a timely manner and of high quality as measured by the accuracy and reliability of required documentation, the amount of work completed, and the degree in which it is performed on time. • Ability to work cooperatively as a team member with all members of the Addictions Crisis Center staff. • Willingness to participate in various treatment-centered activities including willingness to accept assigned responsibilities. • Willingness to discuss any areas of concern with the Nursing Supervisor or Program Director that are not resolved at the primary care team level. • Maintains professional conduct with co-workers and cooperates as part of a team. • Utilizes supervision and notifies supervisor of concerns and issues. • Maintains cooperation in carrying out the work. • Maintains professional conduct with patients who are receiving services throughout the treatment delivery system. • Maintains positive relationships with other Rescue Mission employees and other community service providers. • Commitment to maintaining confidentiality regarding clients’ presence in the program, treatment or medical or HIV conditions per agency and federal law regulations. • Commitment to adhere to all established policies and procedures of the Addictions Crisis Center.
