Description
An Environmental Scientist Intern will work collaboratively with our teams to support a Burns & McDonnell Department, Global Practice or Regional Office. This position will provide support and assistance with requests in support of the business strategy.

Environmental Health & Safety Compliance & Inspection:
Environmental compliance is a complex, ever-changing landscape. EHS Compliance and Inspection is now one team that will continue to build on decades of experience helping clients nationwide comply with local, state and federal regulations. We provide full spectrum multi-media compliance, permitting, inspections, and monitoring for a wide variety of clients and for projects led by other GPs. Our teams of professionals are concentrated in Kansas City, St. Louis, Houston, San Diego and Chicago plus other offices.
Environmental Studies:
Our Environmental Planner/Interns conduct environmental and siting studies supporting development of environmental assessments and impact statements pursuant to reviews under the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and/or Certificates of Convenience and Necessity (CCN) per state Public Utility Commission (PUC) requirements. Tasks include data recording, analysis, and report preparation supporting various types of projects, including high-voltage transmission line routing, roadways, airports, or other facilities requiring federal or state authorization. Working knowledge of Geographical Information Systems preferred.
Assist with tasks that may include filing, scanning, data entry, documentation, Power Point presentation.
Assist with responses to general questions.
Participate in continuous improvement efforts by collecting and analyzing data.
Present solutions to concerns.
Research solutions to project concerns; analyze and recommend solutions to problems.
Assist with ad hoc projects as assigned by managers.
Minimum of a 3.0 GPA strongly preferred.
Involvement on campus or in the community preferred.
Candidates must be legally authorized to work permanently (i.e., without time limitations, without restrictions or without need for work sponsorship) in the country where this position is located.

Qualifications
Pursuit of Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering or related degree from an accredited program
Prior internship and/or related consulting experience Preferred
Actively involved in campus, community or other volunteer activities or organizations.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Strong problem solving and analytical skills.
Basic knowledge and experience in Microsoft Office programs, including, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
Demonstrated leadership skills.
Self-motivated and eager learner, aptitude to grow and develop within the field.
