Basic Job Functions
Lead gardening activities, as well as develop and share garden-based education enrichment activities with the Garden Crafters of the Children's Gardening Program at the Edible Academy.
Additionally, this position supports, through actions and conduct, NYBG’s Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Accessibility initiatives and actively helps to build and maintain an inclusive organizational culture throughout the institution.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
Lead a group of twelve children between six and twelve years old (ie: (12) six year olds or (126) nine year olds) through a series of gardening activities and garden-based enrichment activities over the course of season.
Develop and submit specific garden-based enrichment activities in advance of each session and complete review and reflection notes on completion of each session.
Lead Garden Crafters through a series of planned gardening activities as they care for their assigned garden plots throughout each program season.
Assist with general horticultural tasks in the garden plots with the participants, and maintain an organized work area, including care of garden tools and enrichment activity supplies.
Qualifications
Applicant should have gardening and teaching experience, an outgoing personality, enthusiastic attitude, and willingness to work with children and families.
Applicant should be able to lift heavy program materials and work outdoors for extended periods.
Two years related experience is required.
Payrate: $20.50 - $23.50 per hour
