The Assistant Director for Facility Operations at the University of Albany is responsible for the administration and oversight of a comprehensive program of recreation facilities and services for the university community. The Assistant Director has the autonomy to analyze and resolve problems and determine appropriate action within their area of expertise as well as supervise numerous undergraduate and graduate student assistants. They provide recommendations for the development of staffing and equipment budgets, oversee the implementation and monitoring of budget, inventory, and other resources, and make recommendations for policy changes.
Primary Responsibilities:
Oversee the daily operation of Campus Recreation facility spaces, including the Colonial Wellness Center, Broadview/Physical Education Building spaces, and all outdoor fields and courts.
Develop, implement, and review operating procedures, policies, and protocols for facility operations.
Develop the operating and personnel budgets for assigned areas.
Serves as a liaison to other campus departments, including Facility Management, Grounds, Environmental Health and Safety, and Residential Life.
Maintain credentialing for CPR/AED/First Aid Teacher Training to certify new staff every semester.
Maintain CPR/First Aid/AED certification database for all Campus Recreation staff and ensure that all staff carry proper certification credentials.
Interview, hire, and train student assistant facility staff to assist in the day-to-day operations of the Colonial Wellness Center.
Supervise the day-to-day operation of the Colonial Wellness Center entry desk.
Additional Responsibilities:
Assists in establishing and implementing goals and objectives of campus recreation.
Assists in creating the department's strategic plan.
Interacts with the Director and staff members regarding topics to help identify opportunities for improvement.
Work with all Campus Recreation Programming professional staff members to actively communicate and market all programs through print media, electronic media, social media, special events and any other efforts deemed appropriate to reach the University Community effectively.
Maintains a positive relationship with other personnel and departments that assist in the development of Campus Recreation programs, services, and facilities.
Represent the Department of Campus Recreation and The University at Albany on various committees, boards, and associations.
Interacts with students, faculty, and staff for the benefit of carrying out the mission of the department.

One or two Graduate Assistants assigned to Facility Operations
30 Student Staff assigned to Facility Operations
15 Student Staff assigned to Colonial Entry Desk
Job Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelors degree from an accredited institution in Sports Administration, Recreation, Athletic/Recreation Administration, Physical Education, Business Administration and/or related field.
Two or more years of relevant experience in facility management, specifically fitness or athletic/recreation facilities.
Demonstrated experience supervising staff.
Ability to work both independently and in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Applicants must address their ability to obtain an American Heart First Aid/CPR/AED Instructor certification within the first year of employment.

Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree from an accredited institution in Higher Education Administration, Recreation, Sports Administration, Business Administration, and/or related field.
Experience working with technology platforms such as EMS, Do Sports Easy, Relay, or similar systems.
Holds a current AHA BLS Instructor certification.
Experience in coordinating certification trainings with outside vendors such as Epilepsy Training, Naloxone Training, etc.
